As we follow Christ, we become more like him. The Holy Spirit helps to grow us and mature us and cause us to want to please God and choose what is pure and good and resist temptation and sin. We will never be sinless this side of heaven, but we will increasingly learn and mature to sin less with the help and power of the Holy Spirit. If we continue to struggle with sin after we are baptized, it does not mean our baptism and faith was not real. It means we are in the process of being made more like Christ (sanctification) which is a lifelong, gradual process.
